The Blades will commence their next EFL-affiliated season with a two-point deduction due to payment defaults to other clubs during their promotion campaign from the Championship last season.
Additionally, a further two-point deduction, suspended until the end of the same season, will be enforced if Sheffield United fail to meet payment obligations regarding transfer or compensation agreements with other clubs.
Currently positioned at the bottom of the Premier League table, the Blades find themselves nine points adrift of safety with only seven matches remaining in the 2023/24 season.
Their return to the top-flight has been fraught with challenges, managing to secure victories in just three encounters thus far.
The EFL’s statement elucidated, “An independent Disciplinary Commission (IDC) has determined that Sheffield United Football Club are to be deducted two points at the start of the next season the Club is in the EFL’s jurisdiction, with a further two points suspended until the end of that same season.
The sanction relates to the 2022/23 season when the Club defaulted on a number of payments to other Clubs, cumulatively exceeding 550 days.”
