In their quest to generate funds for the acquisition of the No.9, valued at approximately €120 million, Chelsea are opting to sell academy graduates, deeming it the most viable strategy.
As reported by Sky Sports Deutschland, the pieces are aligning for a deal that would see Ian Maatsen permanently move to Borussia Dortmund.
The young Dutch player played a pivotal role, scoring the second goal as BVB secured a 4-2 victory over Atletico Madrid, propelling them to the Champions League semi-finals. Maatsen has impressed immensely during his loan stint in the Bundesliga.
According to Patrick Berger, “Ian Maatsen is keen to depart Chelsea on a permanent basis in the summer. Chelsea are already aware of his intentions.”
“The left-back, who has contributed two goals and two assists for Dortmund, is thriving in his current environment and is eager to continue. His release clause is set between €35-40 million.”
Dortmund’s keen interest in securing the 22-year-old’s services is understandable, given his surge in form since joining the club. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has soared from €6.6 million at the beginning of the year to nearly €19 million presently. Should this trend persist, BVB could secure considerable value for the player at Chelsea’s designated price.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are likely to find a sale within that price range satisfactory. The club recognizes the necessity for multiple outgoings to finance a move for Osimhen, especially with reports of PSG intensifying their pursuit of the Nigerian international.
Additionally, Chelsea are poised to offload Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah as part of a reshuffling of their first-team roster, although Maatsen’s move to Dortmund appears to be their primary focus at the moment.
