Despite Amrabat’s interest in staying, United’s management doesn’t seem to share this enthusiasm.
Amrabat is currently expected to return to Fiorentina at the end of June, and Fiorentina is already in talks with Galatasaray about a potential permanent transfer.
However, Manchester United still has time to decide whether to exercise their purchase option.
When Amrabat arrived last summer, expectations were high, as he had attracted interest from several clubs before joining United on transfer deadline day.
However, adapting to the Premier League proved challenging, and by early 2024, Amrabat was benched in favor of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo.
Despite these initial difficulties, Amrabat reclaimed a starting position in May, delivering strong performances against top teams like Arsenal and Newcastle United, and starting in the FA Cup final in place of the slightly injured Casemiro.
These games highlighted Amrabat’s potential value to United, but the club’s hierarchy remains unconvinced about signing him permanently.
Amrabat has received praise from various quarters, including Morocco manager Walid Regragui, who described him as a “world-class” player.
Despite this, United’s management remains hesitant, and their decision will likely depend on the team’s managerial situation.
If Erik ten Hag continues as manager, Amrabat might have a chance to stay at United, as Ten Hag’s influence could persuade the board to keep him.
However, if Ten Hag is replaced, the new manager might prefer to pursue his own targets instead of retaining Amrabat.
