Marcos Alonso has sent a heartfelt leaving message to Barcelona, saying, “It’s been an honor.”

The left-back departs after two years and two trophies and says he’ll continue to support the club from afar.

He wrote on Instagram: “It has been an honor to wear the blaugrana shirt.

I take a lot of things from these two seasons but I would like to highlight the affection of all the culés and the atmosphere in a spectacular dressing room, in addition to a League and a Spanish Super Cup.

Thank you to all the club workers who make fc barcelona so much more than a club.

Wish you all the best for what’s coming I’ll be cheering from home as usual. Long live Barca”

Alonso admited he was fulfilling a boyhood dream when he signed for Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2022.

The defender’s father famously played for the club and used to take his son to watch the games at the Camp Nou.

Alonso will now look for a new opportunity but it’s not clear yet where he’ll be playing his football in the 2024-25 season.
