Initially, Sander Berge was a target for the club, but negotiations did not materialize as he ended up signing with Fulham. This development has put Manuel Ugarte at the forefront of Manchester United’s transfer agenda.
The 23-year-old Uruguayan international has been frequently linked with a transfer to Manchester United, and recent updates from Florian Plettenberg suggest significant progress in these discussions.
According to Plettenberg, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are now in ‘advanced negotiations’ for Ugarte, with the two clubs moving closer to finalizing a deal.
There is still some uncertainty about whether the transfer will be a permanent move or a loan arrangement with an obligation to buy.
Plettenberg notes that while a verbal agreement has been reached with Ugarte, the deal has not been completed yet.
The delay in finalizing the transfer seems to be due to differing valuations of Ugarte. Manchester United is aiming to negotiate the lowest possible price, while PSG is holding firm on their asking price of £51 million.
Ugarte, who plays primarily as a defensive midfielder, would be a valuable addition to Manchester United’s squad, particularly to provide cover and support for Casemiro, who may need rest or could be out of form at times.
Despite having spent just one year at PSG, Ugarte appears eager to make a move to Old Trafford, and the deal seems to be moving in a positive direction.
