Chelsea’s development under Enzo Maresca has shown promise. Ten games into the 2023/24 Premier League season, they sat 11th with 12 points.

This season, they’ve improved, currently sitting fourth with 18 points. While Chelsea is far from challenging for the title, with clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool having more established squads, progress is evident.

If owner Todd Boehly gives Maresca and his young team time to develop chemistry, a title push could be on the horizon.

However, Robbie Savage feels Chelsea’s title chances hinge on replacing Robert Sanchez, arguing that a “seven out of 10” goalkeeper isn’t enough for championship aspirations.

Savage has expressed concerns about Sanchez’s performances, including his positioning during an error-prone 2-1 loss to Liverpool and a recent penalty giveaway against Manchester United.

Despite paying £25 million for Sanchez after he slipped to third choice at Brighton, Chelsea may need to look internally rather than make further costly investments in goalkeeping talent.

With several young keepers on the books, Chelsea’s focus could be on nurturing internal prospects for the future rather than adding to their goalkeeping lineup.
