After a harsh assessment of the club’s current state by Roy Keane, reports suggest that Amorim has informed minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe and sporting director Dan Ashworth that he needs reinforcements in six positions before next season, with immediate focus on January signings.
Amorim’s list includes two centre-backs, a left-back, a midfielder, a striker, and a winger to implement his 3-4-3 formation.
He has urged Ashworth and CEO Omar Berrada to secure funds for these additions across two transfer windows, with a specific priority on signing a left-back in January. Given the ongoing injury issues with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Amorim has emphasized the need to resolve this position.
United are targeting Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who will be a free agent next summer, although Amorim is willing to wait for his signature.
If Real Madrid secures Davies, United may turn to alternatives such as Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez or re-sign Alvaro Fernandez from Benfica, but Amorim wants clarity on the left-back situation by the end of January.
In addition to a left-back, Amorim is prioritizing two new centre-backs, with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof set to leave in 2025, and doubts surrounding Harry Maguire’s future. Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande are high on his list.
Concern over United’s lack of goals has led Amorim to target Viktor Gyokeres, the prolific striker from Sporting, as a priority for the summer. He is also interested in reuniting with winger Geovany Quenda, as well as potentially bringing back Angel Gomes, who could replace Casemiro in the long term.
For his system, Amorim sees players like Andre Onana, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, and Bruno Fernandes as crucial, while he is also keen on retaining Manuel Ugarte, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund as core assets.
