Liverpool team news vs Bournemouth: Key man left out as Slot makes Gakpo and Nunez calls

Arne Slot heads into an away day with a relatively fresh Liverpool first team at his disposal.

Having sewn up their place in the Champions League knockouts, the Dutch boss was able to give a night off to the majority of his starters, while their understudies lost 3-2 away to PSV.

Back to Premier League action, Slot is set to make a host of changes to face an in-form Bournemouth who have been unfazed by the injury losses of strikers Evanilson and Enes Unal.

Here, Express Sport takes a look at the Liverpool teamlikely to face Bournemouth on Saturday.

Liverpool predicted XI to face Bournemouth (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper: Alisson

Caoimhin Kelleher is arguably the most capable understudy in world football, but Alisson is the undisputed number one at Anfield and will be recalled to the team after his back-up got a rare start in Europe last time out.

Defence: Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson

Andy Robertson is the only survivor of the back four that featured in Eindhoven, though will be moved away from the centre-back role he was tasked with.

The Scot was taken off after an hour of play against PSV while Kostas Tsimikas played the entire 90 minutes, perhaps a hint at which left-back will be summoned to deal with a Bournemouth attack that has scored 16 goals in their last four games.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk will be restored alongside Ibrahima Konate in a familiar back four, the strongest at Slot’s disposal.

Midfield: Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister

Bournemouth have made no bones about getting up-close-and-personal with the ‘Big Six’ in the Premier League. Liverpool’s midfield will need to be on top form to come away with anything at the Vitality.

Slot is likely to revert to his familiar trio of Dominic Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, despite Curtis Jones being available once again.

Attack: Salah, Nunez, Diaz

Darwin Nunez likely would have been given the chance to start against PSV if he had not been struck down by an illness.

Both he and Diogo Jota were back in training on Friday and are set to be involved against Bournemouth.

Cody Gakpo was entrusted with another start in the Netherlands on Wednesday and although taken off after 52 minutes, could make way for a Nunez opportunity and to allow the Dutch forward to rest ahead of a busy schedule.

Bournemouth’s out-of-possession gung-ho shape could lend itself to more directness from the visitors on the south coast, where Nunez could shine and prove that he has a place in the team going forward under Slot.
