Newcastle United offered opportunity to sign Liverpool star criticised by Arne Slot

Newcastle United may look to sign a new attacker in the summer transfer window with Callum Wilson likely to leave the club.

The Magpies rely heavily on Alexander Isak and his goal scoring ability but Newcastle manager Eddie Howe would love to have a back up option who he can rely on in the absence of Isak.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are set to be offered the opportunity to sign Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.

The Uruguay international attacker is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season and Newcastle could use that in their favour by making a move for the under-fire Liverpool star.

Nunez has been linked with an exit from Anfield with a move to the Saudi Pro League also mentioned.

However, if Newcastle can join the race to sign him and offer him the opportunity to stay in the Premier League, the striker’s head could be turned by that.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has been critical of Nunez’s performances recently with the Dutch manager pointing fingers at the striker’s work rate in the recent matches against Wolves and Aston Villa.

Slot said:

“I can’t accept if a player doesn’t give everything. That is clear. I can accept it once, but twice was a bit too much. That’s why I addressed it.”

As per the report, Nunez could be available for just £60m in the summer transfer window but it remains to be seen if the Magpies can afford to pay that amount considering their recent issues with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The Liverpool star has managed to score only six goals this season and his record has not been the most impressive but Howe may consider a Premier League experienced attacker over any other player from a different league.

Whether Newcastle would be able to sign Nunez is still not certain but the Merseyside club have started exploring the market to replace the Uruguayan attacker.
