Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024, has struggled to implement his high-pressing, possession-based style, with United’s chance creation dropping to 9.5 per 90 minutes from 11.7 under Ten Hag. Giggs, reflecting on Amorim’s candid claim that this could be United’s “worst team” after a 3-1 loss to Brighton, suggested the comment was a calculated move to demand backing from the board while lowering expectations. “He’s been truthful about the squad’s state, and players need to step up fast or risk being left behind,” Giggs said, noting the need for three to four transfer windows to align the squad with Amorim’s vision.
