Chelsea had just bought Marc Cucurella a year ago at this time, and they were pleased that they had gotten him before Manchester City.
We’re desperate to get rid of him now, a year later. We almost loaned him out on the last day, but we still don’t know what to do with our left back.
However, it appears that preparations to transfer him on were made in January. Fabrizio Romano revealed in an exclusive post for Caughtoffside that Manchester City sought to get him on loan in January, six months after missing out on him in the summer:
“However, it is true that Manchester City made an offer to Chelsea to loan Marc Cucurella at the start of January.” It also offered the option to purchase, which was not required. Chelsea declined because they wanted Cucurella to stay with them, and nothing further has happened between Cucurella and Man City since then.
Cucurella will be difficult to get rid of permanently because he signed for so much money and is paid so well. He might obtain a few loans and then be quietly thrown out the back door, like so many of our other big-money transactions that didn’t work out.
