Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over ownership of Chelsea a year ago, there has been a lot of movement at the club, and it appears that the ownership group is poised to take another risky step.

Over the course of the past 18 months, Boehly has observed the hiring and firing of management, a number of unusual transactions, and the acquisition of the French club Strasbourg.

Several industry professionals have voiced their disapproval of the way in which the Americans have approached the project on the grounds that the outcomes of these decisions have not yet been reflected in the proposal.

According to The Telegraph, a company founded by Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly, who already manage Chelsea and Strasbourg, is reportedly considering making an investment in Sporting CP, which is one of the top three teams in Portugal. One of the top three teams in Portugal is the Sporting CP club.

It is well known that Sporting is responsible for the development of exceptional talent; therefore, the owners of Chelsea would be making a significant decision if they decided to pursue this course of action. This is a significant problem for football as well given that the owners of one European rival club should not be allowed to buy a team with the same pedigree as the Portuguese giants.

Because it is highly likely that both teams will compete in the subsequent European competitions, UEFA would have a significant impact on the outcome of any potential transaction.
