A month after the transfer market closed, few predicted that David de Gea, whose 12-year career at Manchester United ended in shocking fashion this summer, would still be without a club.
It was predictable that Man Utd would let the 32-year-old leave when his contract expired, but no one expected De Gea to remain a free agent for very long.
Although the former Manchester United starter may not have been Erik ten Hag’s ideal goalkeeper, he is still a skilled shot-stopper who can perform at a high level on a consistent basis.
However, De Gea hasn’t received any offers, at least not ones that have piqued his interest, and the 45-time international is really contemplating retiring.

The arrival of Erik ten Hag at Carrington marked the beginning of the end for De Gea’s time as the club’s goalkeeper. The Dutchman emphasizes passing out from the back and playing through the thirds. The keeper is the first line of defense.
Although De Gea has always been a Premier League-caliber goalkeeper, he has lacked the same skill with the ball at his feet as his peers. In England, goalkeepers like Alisson Becker and Ederson have set the pace for distribution, and, honestly, the contemporary game has left De Gea in the dust.
The previous Ajax coach viewed the Spaniard as a liability since he could not adapt to the ideology of his new team. When combined with his alleged weekly pay of £375,000, it’s easy to see why Man Utd decided to part ways with their long-time starter.
Andre Onana, a Cameroonian international, was brought in to replace De Gea, and despite a shaky start, he should help the Red Devils build from the back more efficiently in the future.
Meanwhile, De Gea has seen a decline in his market value, with only short-term signings to replace injured goalkeepers at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the summer being the best he and his agent could hope for.

De Gea has reportedly declined an invitation to join the many seasoned talents who left Europe for Saudi Arabia last summer, as reported by Okpops.
The keeper has stated his desire to remain in Europe and his confidence that he can still play a significant role for a team competing in the Champions League.
According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo has been trying to persuade his former teammate, De Gea, to join him at Al Nassr, but De Gea has so far refused.
De Gea said he is not interested in joining the 12 Premier League players that moved to Saudi Arabia this summer. Among them are Jordan Henderson, Riyad Mahrez, and Allan Saint-Maximin.
Why hasn’t David de Gea signed with a new team?
De Gea’s high expectations may be holding back his search for a new club. The keeper has high expectations of being the starting goalie for his new team, especially in the Champions League. Therefore, he probably won’t find many potential partners that meet all his requirements.
Bayern and Real Madrid may not have pursued the goalie because they knew they couldn’t meet his demands once Manuel Neuer and Thibaut Courtois recovered from serious injuries.
There’s also the question of whether or not they have the financial clout to sign De Gea. To sign the Spaniard, for example, a team would need to be able to afford a weekly salary of £187,500 for a goalkeeper who will be 33 years old in November.
It’s reasonable to assume that De Gea’s reputation has suffered a little over the past few years, too. Although he won Player of the Year four times at Manchester United, his subsequent decline in performance and failure to implement a more current tactical game plan have made him less attractive to potential suitors.
Will David de Gea Call It Quits?
De Gea has expressed a desire to keep playing, especially since he is still young for a goalkeeper, but he will consider retirement if the perfect deal does not come up. 90min is aware that he is willing to wait until January before making a decision, but he may have to think about his future if he doesn’t find a new club by then.
Naturally, there is still plenty of time for things to alter before the year is over. De Gea may yet accept a second-choice offer from a club on the continent, or he could decide to play elsewhere.
Given all he has given the Premier League throughout his time with Man Utd, it would be a pity if De Gea departed at such a young age owing to a lack of credible options.
