Andre Onana made a mistake that contributed to Manchester United’s 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich, and Erik ten Hag believes that Manchester United should “support” him.

Onana let a relatively harmless long-range shot from Leroy Sane go through his fingertips and into the back of the net in the 28th minute of his first Champions League game for Manchester United. The shot came after some nice combination play between Harry Kane and Sane. At the end of an exciting game played at the Allianz Arena, Bayern scored another three goals, but the final score of 4-3 does not accurately reflect the manner in which the home team performed.

United handed over $43.8 million to Inter to acquire Onana during the summer transfer window, but the club has not yet seen the Cameroon international play to his full potential. Onana has now given up 14 goals while playing as the club’s number one goalkeeper for six games.

Ten Hag was asked about the error committed by Onana after the game by TNT Sports, and the Dutchman was eager to emphasize how important it is for United to gather around the 27-year-old player. Ten Hag spoke to TNT Sports after the game.
“I believe that he demonstrates that he is willing to accept responsibility and demonstrates personality, as well as the personality that he needs to have in order to achieve to high levels. However, I believe that is not simply because of him, but also because of how well the squad has performed,” Ten Hag remarked.

Therefore, it is imperative that we show him our support and assistance out on the field. However, this does not simply count for Andre; rather, it counts for every player that is currently on the pitch.

They need to comprehend that they are 11 years old, that they are all in the same boat, and that they all need to be on the same page in order to achieve success. In football, there is no way to avoid making errors; thus, you shouldn’t blow things out of proportion.

As I’ve already mentioned, it wasn’t only Andre working toward that objective; it was also after that. The second half of the game saw him make some fantastic saves for us, he demonstrated his ability, and he will get back on track for us; he is a very vital player.

After the game, Onana himself addressed the media and, rather unexpectedly, requested an interview. He did so in order to take responsibility for his performance and acknowledge that he still has “a lot to prove.”

“It’s a difficult situation for us, and for me, as I let the team down,” Onana said. “It’s a difficult situation.” Even though we had a tremendously strong team, I was ultimately to blame for us not taking home the victory in this match. Although I am pleased with the efforts of the team, it is time for us to move on since that is how the position of goalkeeper works. Because of me, we didn’t end up winning today.

“When they got their first shot on target, I made a mistake, and as a result, the team lost because of my error.” Even if it’s not an easy circumstance, I have to learn from it, be strong about it, and go on. I am pleased with the return of the team; we fought to the very end of the game.

“I have a great deal to justify. My beginning in Manchester has not been productive or as I would like it to be. One of my worst games ever was today’s, considering how I played it.”
When United take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday evening, Onana will be looking to keep his first clean sheet since the 14th of August. The match takes place against newly-promoted Burnley.
