The new season has gotten off to an impressive beginning for the Reds. They are now in fourth place in the standings, three points behind Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur but behind Manchester City by only one point. Murphy states that he would rather start with a different Liverpool player than Gakpo, despite the fact that Gakpo had an impressive performance.
Danny Murphy believes that the outstanding player for Liverpool, Cody Gakpo, should be placed on the bench.
Cody Gakpo was purchased by Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January for the sum of 35 million British pounds (Guardian).
The Dutchman has already left an impact on Jurgen Klopp, who has played him in a variety of positions throughout the pitch, including as a center striker, winger, and even in the middle of the field.
Gakpo has already appeared in seven matches in the Premier League thus far in this season. Except for the first two matches, he has played exclusively in the striking position, which Murphy does not appear to enjoy.
According to the commentator, Darwin Nunez should get the starting position, and he predicts that the Uruguayan forward will score twenty goals per season if he is given more chances to do so.
Murphy believes that Gakpo need to be eliminated from the team due to the fact that his opponents’ defenders would rather go up against him than someone like Nunez.
On talkSPORT, he made the following statement: “Look, Liverpool has good options in attacking areas.” Even though I favor Gakpo, when you face the best teams, I would rather play Nunez down the middle, Diaz, and Salah left and right rather than Gakpo. This is true even though I prefer Gakpo.
“In most cases, I think about it from the perspective of a center back for Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, or Arsenal looking at the Liverpool team sheet to see if Gakpo or Nunez is playing. (Nunez) contributes to my already existing anxiety.
Gakpo plays in the middle of the field.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz would make up Liverpool’s best forward line, in our opinion, which is in agreement with Murphy’s assessment.
Salah is without a doubt the starting player on the right flank, although Diaz has been really impressive this season. Even though Nunez has only started three games in the league this season, he is a valuable asset to have because he makes life difficult for defenders on the opposing team.
The Dutchman Gakpo has started five games this season at center forward, but he also has experience playing in the midfield position. When going up against opponents who just play deep defense against the Reds, it makes a lot of sense to play him alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai together.
Following the break for international competition, it will be interesting to see if Gakpo gets the starting nod for Liverpool’s match against Everton. If it were up to us, the first person we’d talk to is Nunez.
