The manager of Sporting CP, who has been having a lot of success in the Portugal league, has made it onto the shortlist as Manchester United considers whether or not to hire Erik ten Hag after being extensively associated with Zinedine Zidane.

According to reports from The Times, Ten Hag, who has come under increasing pressure due to a string of disappointing results, is reportedly on “thin ice” at United. The team had its worst start to a season in 61 years, and several names were being examined as prospective successors. One of those names was Zinedine Zidane, who had previously served as the manager of Real Madrid. After suffering successive big defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Newcastle, Ruben Amorim, the highly regarded manager of Sporting CP, was also considered as a possible candidate for the position.

During his appearance on the YouTube channel The United Stand, however, the well-known journalist Fabrizio Romano attempted to shed light on the situation by providing further context. In response to the persistent rumors, Romano made the following statement: “I saw all these stories and rumors around Erik ten Hag and his future, but from what I’m hearing, the reality is that internally, they never considered the possibility of firing Erik ten Hag.” In addition to this, he stressed that “Manchester United have never been in touch with Zinedine Zidane and Ruben Amorim.”

In the past week, Manchester United was quick to deny rumors that they were looking into other options outside Ten Hag, categorically stating that the rumors were completely wrong. Nonetheless, Ruben Amorim was asked about it during a news conference after Sporting’s triumph in the Portuguese League Cup over Farense, which they won 4-2 to go to the next round.

When asked about the supposed interest of United, he gave the following response: “This year I’m not going to go back to the same conversation as last year. Regarding the recent events, I will refrain from providing any form of commentary.

When further questioned regarding the possibility of moving to Old Trafford, Amorim responded by saying, “We don’t know the future; it depends on the results.” It has more to do with the overarching concept of what we require as a group, specifically additional pressure to ensure that we do not conceal.

In terms of the future, I have a suggestion for how the current campaign should wrap up, but I won’t make it public just yet. However, the outcomes and the surrounding circumstances lead us to a different conclusion. It is not my intention to make any comments on these matters. There has been no communication from Manchester United with me.”
