The Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who may decide to leave England for his new nation, has been contacted by DR Congo.
Wan-Bissaka may or may not take Congo’s offer, but if he does, Manchester United may not be happy with his decision. The 2024 AFCON campaign kicks out in January and runs until February 11th in Ivory Coast. If Wan-Bissaka plays, his international commitments could keep him away from the United team for over a month. The Red Devils’ first-choice goaltender, Andre Onana, is expected to represent Cameroon in the tournament, thus the stopper won’t be available at that time either.
Wan-Bissaka and Onana are not the only Manchester United players that may be going to AFCON 2024. Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast), Hannibal Mejbri (Tunisia), and loanee midfielder Sofyan Amrabat (Morocco) could also participate if called up by their respective national teams.
Wan-Bissaka is back and ready to play after an injury interrupted his season. He will try to maintain his place in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup.
As he approaches the last year of his contract, the defender’s future at Old Trafford is unclear. Instead of making him an offer for a long-term contract extension, the club can choose to employ the one-year extension clause that is now in place.
