The Manchester United club has been quite active in the transfer market, as seen by the fact that they have acquired André Onana from Inter Milan, Jonny Evans from Leicester City, and Mason Mount from Chelsea. They are getting close to completing their fourth purchase of the summer.
The agreement between United and Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly valued up to 72 million pounds, according to Simon Stone of BBC Sport. Having just finished a successful first season in Italy, the young player, who is only twenty years old, appears to have a good career ahead of him.
As a result of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract being terminated the previous year and Wout Weghorst’s loan agreement not being converted permanent for several months, Erik ten Hag is aware of the significance of acquiring a center forward.
Despite the fact that Marcus Rashford is capable of playing the makeshift role of center forward, Anthony Martial is the only natural center forward that Ten Hag has at his disposal. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that another attacker is being contracted.
Due to the fact that Martial suffered many injuries and scored six goals in 21 league games during the previous season, Ten Hag should not put his faith in him for the 2023–2024 season. The 26-year-old player, on the other hand, will not be sold because he is still valuable as a member of the club.
As a result of the fact that Manchester United scored 58 less goals than seven other top-flight clubs during the previous season, it is clear that they have room for improvement in this area.
A deal was reached.
According to the BBC, the initial cost of Hojlund for United will be £64 million, with an additional £8 million for prospective add-ons. He is going to sign a contract that will last until 2028 and includes an option for an additional season. According to reports coming from Italy, the Danish international will receive a salary of €5 million per year, which is equivalent to £3.5 million per year.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is already making arrangements for Hojlund to have his medical examination, and it is anticipated that the two clubs will exchange documents within the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
Before signing with Atalanta in 2022, Hojlund had previously played for Brondby, Holbaek, FC Copenhagen (32 games, 5 goals), and Sturm Graz (21 games, 12 goals, 4 assists). Since then, he has played for Atalanta, where he has scored ten goals and provided four assists in 34 appearances.
The previous year, he made 20 starts in Serie A and scored nine goals, so it is not hard to understand why United would want to sign him. However, Hojlund is not going to be inexpensive, therefore the Red Devils are taking a risk by paying such a high price for him.
Despite this, Ten Hag has already acquired a goalkeeper, a center back, and a central midfielder this summer; therefore, the spinal column will be finished off with the addition of a center forward.
