Raphael Varane’s position at Manchester United is still fluid as revealed by Fabrizio Romano. Although there has not been any news confirming if Man United will let the French International leave in the 2024 transfer window, there are a few concerns from fans after Varane has been dropped from the starting by the Red Devils head coach.

Manchester United's Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in 2021 for about £34m. The French International spell at Old Trafford hasn’t been up to expectations largely due to injuries.

Although a top defender, Raphael Varane’s performance has reduced in the present season as Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof have all been the favored center-backs by Erik Ten Hag ahead of the French man.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were Manchester United’s preferred options in the center-back position until this season when Lisandro Martinez got injured and the chemistry between both has been interrupted.

In the absence of Lisandro Martinez, Manchester United fans have called for a new option to give the team depth in the squad. In Fabrizio Romano’s recent update, he mentioned the Red Devils’ top priority for the 2024 transfer window.

Although Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has spoken about the issue and has revealed that dropping Raphael Varane is just about tactics.

Fabrizio Romano has also further shed more light on Erik Ten Hag’s stance on the incident. He said – “As previously reported, the message on Raphael Varane remains very clear – It is a tactical decision for him not to start games for Manchester United at the moment.”

Fabrizio went further to add that with Jonny Evans now injured Raphael’s chances of start have risen. – “Still, with Evans now injured, I’m sure we’ll see Varane getting more playing time.”

Manchester United may look to accept tempting offers in the January transfer window as also revealed by Fabrizio. The Red Devils will look to replace the French international with Edmond Tapsoba and Jean-Clair Todibo as highlighted by the journalist in a recent tweet on X formerly known as Twitter.

“We know that in 2024 a top priority for United is a new center-back, but whether it’ll be January or the summer will depend on opportunities.” – Fabrizio Romano remarked concerning United’s top priority in the 2024 transfer window.
