Following Jurgen Klopp’s retirement from his role as manager of Liverpool, Jamie Carragher has announced the identification of the individual who would take over as the next manager of Liverpool.

After comparing the career of Xabi Alonso, the Spanish manager, to that of Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp, Jamie Carragher believes that Xabi Alonso will succeed Jurgen Klopp as the manager of Liverpool.

At the moment, the 42-year-old is the most likely candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who just announced that he will be stepping down from his position at Anfield after a remarkable nine-year spell there.

After signing with Liverpool in 2004, Alonso played for the club for a period of five years, during which time he became an integral member of Rafael Benitez’s team that won the Champions League in 2005.

Since taking over as manager of Bayer Leverkusen in 2022, Alonso has transformed a club that was in danger of being relegated to the lower division into a team that has the ability to win the league.

In the Bundesliga standings, the club led by the Spaniard is currently in first place, ahead of Bayern Munich, and has the potential to become the side that ultimately puts an end to Bayern’s supremacy in Germany.

Leverkusen stretched their winning streak to 31 games in all competitions with a 3-0 victory over Bayern on Saturday.

This victory also gave them a five-point edge over Bayern in the Bundesliga standings despite the fact that Bayern is their championship opponents.

As a result of Alonso’s “remarkable” performance at the BayArena, Carragher admits that he is reminded of Mourinho and Klopp’s victories over FC Porto and Borussia Dortmund, both of which were underdogs, before they received their major breakthroughs in Europe.

It is something that we are going to look into because I believe there is a significant possibility that he will become the next manager of Liverpool, and he appears to be the most prominent candidate.

During an appearance on Monday Night Football, Carragher made the following statement: “When you think of the great managers and where they start, a lot of them do something pretty remarkable at maybe a lower level.”

“You think of what Jose did at FC Porto, winning a Champions League there, you think of Jurgen Klopp, winning two titles with Borussia Dortmund and now I think of Xabi Alonso and if actually achieves what it looks like their favourites now to achieve – to win a Bundesliga – and the result that they had at the weekend, I think it will be really insightful to actually see, if he is in the Premier League next season, what is his way of playing? Describe the process that he uses, and explain how it differs from the way that Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team approach things.

Not only are Liverpool now in first place in the Premier League, but they have also made it to the round of 16 in both the FA Cup and the Europa League. Additionally, they will be facing Chelsea in the League Cup final later this month.
