The referee who blew against Manchester United in their match against Liverpool has been given some unfortunate news, as reported by Fabrizio Romano

It has been reported that Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, narrowly avoided receiving a red card for a challenge that he made on Dominik Szoboszlai during the United Football Association Cup match.

In the match between Manchester United and Liverpool, Lee Dixon has provided some insight into the reasons he believes Bruno Fernandes was able to avoid receiving a second yellow card.

Fernandes was not given a second caution for a tackle that he made on Dominik Szoboszlai in the second half of the game, despite the fact that he had been cautioned earlier in the game.

Although Dixon acknowledged Fernandes’ fortunate escape from a yellow card, he believed that the incident should not have resulted in a straight red card.

Dixon was providing co-commentary commentary during the match.

As he pointed out, incidences of this nature are quite common on the field, and although the video assistant referee (VAR) might have looked into it, it did not intervene in this particular occasion.

Dixon continued by stating that if Fernandes had been involved in a similar tackle elsewhere on the pitch and he hadn’t previously been booked, he would have unquestionably been shown a yellow card.

At the same time, he emphasized his conviction that the referee would have issued a warning in the event that such a challenge had taken place on the halfway line.
