VERY SAD NEWS has been leaked for Manchester United from UEFA this morning.

While Newcastle was totally removed from European participation, Chelsea was dropped down into the Conference League from the Europa League.

Man Utd may shortly, however, join the Blues in the third level of European competition.

That results from Ineos, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s firm, owning French team Nice.

Having finished fifth in the French premier division, the team guaranteed a Europa League spot this season.

Ratcliffe and co have now also purchased a 27.7% share in Man Utd, which might provide issues for the Old Trafford team under Uefa’s multi-club ownership policies.

L’Equipe claims that Ineos’s investment has come with a commitment to invest a further £245m for infrastructure projects which would boost ownership to more than thirty percent.

Crossing this mark would cause Ineos to violate ownership regulations and send one of the teams down to the Conference League.

No individual “may concurrently be involved, either directly or indirectly, in any capacity whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of more than one club competing in a UEFA club tournament,” says Article 5.01 b.

Man Utd would have faced being kicked out of European football totally.
