The Liverpool right-back thought he had opened the scoring seven minutes into the game against Man United after referee Anthony Taylor awarded the goal.
However, VAR rightly ruled it off as Reds forward Mohamed Salah had been offside in the build-up.
The KMI has ruled that the video assistant referee (VAR) was right to intervene and chalk off the goal for Liverpool, also ruling that the on-field decision from Taylor was incorrect.
It was the only on-pitch decision ruled to have been incorrect out of the 23 incidents that were looked into after the third round of Premier League fixtures in 2024-25.
The independent panel consists of three former players or coaches, one Premier League representative and one representative from the referees’ body (Professional Game Match Officials Board).
The Premier League panel will continue to look into incidents after every matchday in the English top-flight, and their decisions should help improve the officiating going forward.
Liverpool went on to secure a 3-0 victory against Man United despite having Alexander-Arnold’s goal ruled out, with Luis Diaz grabbing a first-half brace.
Salah added the third goal 11 minutes into the second-half, with the visitors completely blowing the Red Devils out of the water.
Joint league leaders Liverpool resume Premier League action on Saturday when they host Nottingham Forest before starting their Champions League campaign against AC Milan at San Siro three days later.
Meanwhile, Man United travel to face newly-promoted Southampton on Saturday before hosting Barnsley in the third-round of the Carabao Cup next Tuesday.

The Premier League Match Centre on X, which is used to provide information on crucial decisions in the Premier League, explained why Alexander-Arnold’s goal was disallowed. It read: “Alexander-Arnold’s goal was initially awarded on-field. The VAR determined that Salah played the ball while in an offside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was disallowed.”
