Liverpool defeated Crystal Palace to maintain their league-leading position, but it appears that Virgil van Dijk will be the topic of most of the rival supporters’ post-match conversation.
As the opposing captain collapsed to the ground, our captain was holding Marc Guehi’s arm in our box and he was requesting a penalty.
According to VAR, Simon Hooper’s on-field ruling was that there was no foul, and David Coote concurred. The Premier League Match Center posted on X:
“VAR checks and confirms the referee’s decision to call no penalty for van Dijk’s challenge on Guéhi, concluding that the challenge was not sustained holding and had no effect on the play.”
Although there weren’t many appeals on the field, we will definitely be punished with this for the remainder of the weekend.
Should this Virgil Van Dijk pull on Marc Guehi have resulted in a penalty for Crystal Palace? 🤔
