It was announced this morning that Jadon Sancho has parted ways with Manchester United and will be joining one of their rival clubs.

According to 90min's sources, Jadon Sancho has recently had a disagreement with Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, and wants to return to Borussia Dortmund during the transfer window that opens in January.

Sancho moved to Manchester United in 2021 from the Bundesliga club, but his career has not flourished at Old Trafford in the two years following the completion of his £73 million transfer. The 23-year-old forward has had very limited playing time for United this season, and he was not even included for the squad that traveled to Arsenal for their 3-1 loss last month.

Ten Hag stated after the game that Sancho’s performances in training were the reason he was not included in the group that traveled to London; however, the 23-year-old responded later on social media saying that he “would not allow people to say things that are untrue” and that he had been “made a scapegoat for too long.”

Following that, Sancho was kicked from the first team and has remained on that bench up to this day, with some sources indicating that Ten Hag’s relationship with the player is irreparable. Even though more than a month has gone since the initial incident, and even though there are no signs of a change in the situation on the horizon, Sancho’s reintegration into the team may be possible if he issues an apology for his behavior.

Although a number of clubs in Germany are keeping an eye on the issue with the intention of signing Sancho in the early part of 2024, it is generally accepted that Sancho is only interested in playing for his old team, Dortmund, at this point. Even while this is still up in the air depending on whether or not there is other interest in the player within the next three months, it is still possible that a deal will be reached with Dortmund before the new year begins.

Because of the damage done to the player’s profile and the fact that the January transfer window occurs in the middle of the season, a time when high-value transfers are less common, a loan with an option or obligation to buy in the summer of 2024 is the scenario that is most likely to occur. This is because United would like to recoup a portion of the fee they paid to sign Sancho in any permanent sale.

90min has stated for some time that Dortmund’s interest in Sancho has remained over his first two years at United, with the relationship between club and player still being strong after four seasons together. This is something that 90min has maintained for some time.

Even though the club is fully sticking with the manager with his disciplinary methods against Sancho and in spite of the current results and performances, Sancho’s route at Old Trafford might be altered if the scenario of Ten Hag, who is under mounting pressure after a terrible start to the season, changes, even if the club is firmly standing behind the manager with his disciplinary measures against Sancho. United are now ranked 10th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from the Champions League after two straight losses.
